HONOLULU - Victor Batista and Casey Patterson led Brigham Young to a four-game victory over host Hawai`i tonight 30-28, 25-30, 30-28, 30-19 in the championship of the 11th Outrigger Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Cougars (3-0), who won the 2004 NCAA Championship, swept through the tournament with an unblemished record.
BYU got solid hitting performances tonight from Batista (21 kills), Patterson (19 kills), and Michael Burke (12 kills).
The largest crowd of the tournament (3,612 turnstile) witnessed BYU hit .355 on the night, including three individuals over the .400 mark.
Hawai`i (2-1) was led offensively by Pedro Azenha who recorded a match-high 22 kills. The Warriors had three other players with double figure kills, including Matt Bender (15), and Maulia La Barre and Dio Dante with 10 apiece.
