Hawaii Cruises To 67-55 Win Over Boise State

HONOLULU - Hawai`i won its second straight game in convincing fashion with a 67-55 victory over Boise State Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 8-6 overall and moved into a tie for third in the WAC standings with a 4-3 mark.

For the second straight game UH jumped all over its opponent, virtually winning the game in the first half. The Rainbow Wahine broke the game open with a 15-2 run and held the Broncos (6-10, 1-6 WAC) to just one bucket in a nine-minute span. The Broncos came in as one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the conference but missed all 15 of its attempts in the first half, en route to just 14 percent shooting overall (6-of-35) by the break.

UH's offense, meanwhile, steamrolled with 12 of its 13 first-half baskets coming off assists. The Rainbow Wahine led by as many as 23 before taking a 35-14 lead into the locker room. Boise State rallied in the second half but could get not closer than 11 points.

Amy Sanders led three Rainbow Wahine in double figures with 17 points. Milia Macfarlane added 13 points, while Callie Spooner enjoyed a career game with 14 points and six rebounds. Jade Abele fell just short of recording the school's first triple-double, finishing with eight points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Jamie Hawkins led Boise State with 15 points.

The win gave UH consecutive victories for the first time in more than a month and catapulted the Rainbow Wahine into a four-way tie for third place in the WAC. The Rainbow Wahine next take to the road where they will face Rice, one of the teams they are tied with in the conference standings. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST on Thursday, January 27.
