HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (26-15, 10-7 WAC) defeated Nevada Wolf Pack (23-22, 8-9) 8-4 in front of a crowd of 2, at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday.
Stephen Bryant (6-3) pitched 6.0 innings to earn the victory while Adam Colton (3-1) took the loss.
Guy McDowell also got the save, giving up just two hits in 3.0 innings.
Andrew Sansaver led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Jaziel Mendoza added a 2-for-4 game with a run, while Creighton Kahoalii was 1-for-4 with two RBI and a double. After waiting until the 10th inning to score in Thursday's game against the Wolf Pack, Hawai`i opened the scoring early, putting up a four-run first inning on RBI-singles by Mendoza and Isaac Omura and a two-run double by Kahoali`i.
Nevada put up a run in the second before the Rainbows broke it open with another four-run inning in the fourth. In the inning, Nathan Thurber scored on a wild pitch before Sansaver hit a two-run single up the middle, making it 7-1. Sansaver scored on a passed ball later in the inning to make it 8-1 after four.
The Wolf Pack made an effort, scoring a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. But two inning-ending double plays by the Rainbows in the eighth and ninth innings shot down Nevada rallies and ended the game 8-4.
The two teams will close out their series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. as Clary Carlsen (6-4) takes the mound against UN's Ryan Rodriguez (2-6).
