Rainbows End Road Trip with 8-1 Win Over Louisiana Tech

Box Score

RUSTON, La. – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (17-10, 3-3 WAC) defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (11-18, 2-4 WAC) 8-1 to take their first-ever series at Louisiana Tech in front of a crowd of 387 at J.C. Love Field Saturday. Clary Carlsen (5-3) pitched his first-ever complete game as a Rainbow, giving up just one unearned run, six hits and no walks while striking out four. Brad Chedister (0-1) got the loss for the Bulldogs.

Isaac Omura led the way for Hawai`i again, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, a double and one run. Brian Finegan added a 3-for-6 game with one RBI and two runs while Gregory Kish went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBI and one run. Rocky Russo also homered, going 2-for-4 on the day, while Creighton Kahoalii went 2-for-5 with a double and a run.

The 'Bows got one run in the top of the first as Matthew Inouye drove in Finegan with a single to leftfield. In the second inning, Finegan and Kish hit back-to-back run-scoring hits while Omura scored on a wild pitch, pushing the score to 4-0 after two.

The Bulldogs got an unearned run in the bottom of the third before the Rainbows erupted again in the top of the fifth with three runs on a solo home run by Russo and a two-run double by Omura.

Kish then led off the sixth with a home run to straight-away centerfield. And that was more than enough for Carlsen, who had his best outing as a 'Bow.

The Rainbows end their 12-day, six-game road trip, and will now head back to Honolulu, where they will take on San Jose State from Apr. 2-4 at the Les Murakami Stadium.
