Rainbows Get First Win of the Season Over Cal State Northridge 11-0

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (1-4) picked up their first win of the year agains the Cal State Northridge Matadors (3-2) 11-0 in front of a crowd of 2,385 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Ricky Bauer (1-1) notched a career-high nine strikeouts while giving up just six hits and no runs in 7.0 innings for the win. Kyle Jean (0-1) got the loss for CSUN.

Combining in the shutout for the Rainbows was Keahi Rawlins, who pitched two hitless innings of relief, striking out three. Robbie Wilder led the way for the 'Bows, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, a run and a stolen base. Matthew Inouye added a 2-for-4 game with a run, one RBI and a double, while Creighton Kahoali`i went 1-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored. Brian Finegan hit safely for the fifth-straight game while Daniel Magana and Jaziel Mendoza had a double each.

Hawai`i got on the board in the second inning when Wilder smacked a two-run single to right field with two outs, putting the 'Bows up 2-0. UH then exploded in the third, picking up four runs, scored by Inouye, Mendoza, Gregory Kish and Rocky Russo to extend their lead to 6-0.

That was all that Bauer and Rawlins would need, combining for the first shutout with a combined 12 strikeouts. But the Rainbow offense wasn't done yet as Russo drove in one in the fourth, Inouye singled in Wilder in the fifth, and Kahoali`i's two-run double highlighted a three-run eighth, giving the 'Bows the 11-0 final.

The two teams will play the rubber-match of the series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. with freshman Steven Wright pitching for UH against CSUN's Craig Baker.
