No. 2 Warriors Run Over No. 9 Stanford, 3-0

Stanford, CA -The No. 2 Warriors win streak extended to six today after trouncing the No. 9 Stanford Cardinals, 3-0 (30-21, 30-18, 30-24). Before a crowd o f 561, Hawai`i improved their record to 8-2, 5-1 MPSF, while Stanford dropped to 5-9, 3-7 MPSF.

Leading the way for the Warriors were outside hitters Delano Thomas, 17 kills (.652), one ace, four digs, and two assists and Pedro Azenha who had 16 kills (.379), one ace, two digs and three blocks. Middleblockers Mauli`a LaBarre and Josh Stanhiser also put on exceptional performances; LaBarre put down seven kills (.750), served up one ace, and put up three blocks including one solo block. Stanhiser also had seven kills (.417), with one dig, and three block assists. Setters Kimo Tuyay and Brian Beckwith split duties tonight with Tuyay putting up 18 assists while Beckwith had 25.

In game one, the Warriors dominated as they had in Friday's match, holding the Cardinal offense to a .000 hitting percentage while hitting a respectable, .316. The sophomore Thomas had a team high nine kills for the game with Azenha trailed minimally with six kills. The Warriors quickly took game one 30-21.

The Warriors jumped to a comfortable 5-1 lead to start off game two and quickly jumped ahead 21-13. Hawai`i's defense allowed only five more Cardinal points in the game while the offense, hitting .739 made short work of the Cardinal, taking game two 30-18.

In game three the Warriors continued their aggressive stance hitting .457 on their way to a 30-24 victory. The Cardinal offense managed a .300 hitting percentage but to no avail, Hawai`i claimed their sixth victory in as many matches after just 75 minutes.

The Warriors will travel to Stockton, Calif. tomorrow to prepare for a pair of matches versus the No. 15 Pacific Tigers (Feb. 16 and 17).
