Box Score
RENO, Nev. - The Unversity of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (26-21, 7-15 WAC) fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack (25-19, 13-5 WAC) 3-1 in front of a crowd of 992 at Peccole Park Friday.
Ricky Bauer (3-4) picked up the loss for UH while Mateo Miramontes (9-2) got the win for Nevada. Zachary Basch came in for an inning to pick up his eighth save for the Wolf Pack.
Bauer pitched well, earning a complete game, giving up just two earned runs in the lowest scoring game at Peccole Park this season. Offensively, Brian Bock led the way with a 3-for-4 performance with one RBI and a stolen base. Jaziel Mendoza added a 1-for-3 day with one run while Isaac Omura went 1-for-1 with two walks. Matthew Inouye and Andrew Sansaver also had 1-for-3 games.
Nevada got out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning before Bock drove in Mendoza in the top of the sixth to cut the Wolf Pack lead to 2-1.
But that was all UH would muster, as Miramontes ended the game with one unearned run and nine strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Tony Cappuccilli would add an insurance run on a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, making the final score 3-1.
The two teams will play again tomorrow at 1 p.m. PDT. Christopher George will start for the Rainbows against Nevada's J.T. Sherman.
