Rainbows Fall to No. 1 Rice, 8-1

HOUSTON - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (17-17, 1-11 WAC) fell to the No. 1 Rice University Owls (32-1, 12-0 WAC) 8-1 in front of a crowd of 2,614 at Reckling Park Sunday. Christopher George (4-5) took the loss for UH while Josh Baker (7-0) got the win.

Andrew Sansaver led the way, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Brian Finegan added a 1-for-4 day with a run while Arthur Guillen and Brent Cook were the only other Rainbows to get hits.

The Rainbows got on the scoreboard early in the first inning, as Sansaver drove in Finegan, putting the `Bows up 1-0. But the Owls would come back to score two runs in the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead.

Rice would then go on to add two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh, getting their lead up to 6-1.

The Owls would then add another two-run inning in the eighth, taking the game by a final of 8-1.

Hawai`i will now head to Shreveport, La., for a game vs. Centenary on Tuesday, Apr. 8 before they play Louisiana Tech for a three-game WAC series in Ruston, La.
