HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (25-20, 7-14 WAC) fell to the San Jose Spartans (21-23, 7-13 WAC) 5-3 in front of a crowd of 2,496 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. 
Keahi Rawlins (4-3) took the loss for Hawai`i while Corey Cabral (2-1) got the win for San Jose State. Andy Cook pitched 1.1 innings to pick up his fifth save of the season.
Rocky Russo led the way for UH with a solo home run, ending the day at 1-for-3. Brian Finegan came up with a 1-for-4 day with a double and two RBI. Andrew Sansaver added a 2-for-5 performance while Clary Carlsen went 6.1 innings, giving up just one hit and no runs.
San Jose State jumped on UH early, scoring two runs in the first inning and three more in the third, taking a 5-0 lead.
Russo would hit a homer in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 5-1. Hawai`i would then get the bases loaded in the eighth inning, but the Spartans would shut down the rally, keeping their four-run lead going into the ninth inning.
The Rainbows would rally in the bottom of the ninth as Finegan would double in two runs to cut the deficit to 5-3. But that is all that UH would get as San Jose State's Cook struck out the final two batters to end the game at 5-3.
Hawai`i will now travel to Sacramento, Calif., for a game at Sacramento State on April 30. The 'Bows will then go to Reno, Nev., for a three-game series with Nevada from May 2-4.
