Rainbows Take Seventh Straight with 9-2 Win Over San Jose State

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (25-19, 7-13 WAC) defeated the San Jose State Spartans (20-22, 6-12 WAC) 9-2 in front of a crowd of 2,891 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Christopher George (7-5) got the win for UH while Frank Esposito (1-3) took the loss.

Andrew Sansaver and Rocky Russo led the way for Hawai`i with identical 2-for-4 lines with one double, two RBI and one run each. Matthew Inouye also went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Jaziel Mendoza added a 2-for-4 night with a run and a double. Brent Cook was 1-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and a double, while Timothy Montgomery went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Inouye got the 'Bows on the board in the second inning, hitting a RBI-single to left field. Brian Bock then scored on an error before Schafer Magana, Sansaver, Cook and Russo drove in runs, making it a 6-0 lead.

Russo would add a RBI-double in the fourth inning, followed by a RBI-single by Bock, making the score 8-0.

The Spartans would manage to score runs in the fifth and eighth innings while UH would add another run in the fifth on sacrifice fly by Sansaver, making the final score 9-2.

The two teams will close out the series tomorrow with Keahi Rawlins (4-2) scheduled to pitch for the 'Bows. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
