Hawai`i Falls to Top-Ranked Rice 11-1, Suffering First Sweep of the Year

Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-8, 1-5 WAC) fell to the No. 1 Rice Owls (19-1, 6-0) 11-1 in front of a crowd of 2,658 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Ricky Bauer (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the 'Bows while Josh Baker (4-0) got the win for Rice.

Isaac Omura led the way for UH, going 2-for-4 with an RBI-double. Matthew Inouye added a 1-for-4 day with a run scored.

The Owls jumped out early scoring one run in the first inning and three more in the third, putting them up 4-0. Rice would then put it out of reach with a big fifth inning, scoring four runs, two of which were unearned, to go up 8-0.

After the Owls put another run on the board in the sixth, UH got a bright spot as Omura drove in his fellow freshman from the Mid-Pacific Institute, Inouye, to put the Rainbows' lone run on the board.

Rice would add two more runs in the eighth inning to make the final 11-1.

The 'Bows will now host Coastal Carolina in two mid-week games before playing another conference series against the Nevada Wolfpack on Friday through Sunday.
