Rainbows Fall to No. 1 Rice 9-2

Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-7, 1-4 WAC) fell to the top-ranked Rice Owls (18-1, 5-0) 9-2 in front of a crowd 3,426 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Justin Cayetano (2-2) got the loss for UH while Phillip Humber (5-0) picked up the win for Rice.

Brent Cook led the 'Bows, going 2-for-4. Keahi Rawlins pitched well in relief, going 4.2 innings, giving up just four hits and two runs while striking out two Owls.

Rice jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Brian Finegan drove in Matthew Inouye to cut the lead to 2-1.

That was the closest that it would get though as the Owls score a run in the fourth, four runs in the fifth and a run in both the seventh and eighth innings to go up 9-1. Hawai`i would add a run in the ninth inning on as Timothy Montgomery scored on a wild pitch, making the final score 9-2.

The two teams will close out the WAC series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. with Ricky Bauer pitching for the Rainbows against Rice's Josh Baker.
