Hawai`i Beats HPU 8-4

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-5) defeated the Hawai`i Pacific University Sea Warriors (4-10) 8-4 in front of a crowd of 2,175 at the Les Murakami Stadium Tuesday. Clary Carlsen (1-1) picked up the win for UH while Brent Erickson (1-2) got the loss for HPU.

Matthew Inouye had a great game, going 4-for-4 with one RBI, one run and two doubles. Rocky Russo aded a 2-for-3 day with two RBI, while Brian Finegan went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run.

Ikaika DuPont got HPU on the board first, driving in a run in the first inning to put the Sea Warriors up 1-0. Hawai`i Pacific then extended their lead in the fifth inning, adding two runs to go up 3-0.

The Rainbows finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, as Drew Jackson hit an RBI double to cut the deficit to two runs. Finegan then drove in another run before Inouye scored on a wild pitch, tying the score at 3-3.

HPU would retake the lead with a run in the top of the seventh before UH would take over, as Andrew Sansaver would drive in a run to tie the game before Finegan scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Russo would then add a two-run single, to put the 'Bows up 7-4 after seven. Inouye would drive in one more run in the eighth, giving the Rainbows the 8-4 win.

The Rainbows will play Matzusaka of Japan in an exhibition game tomorrow before hosting the top-ranked Rice Owls for a three-game series this weekend.
