HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (7-3) fell to the No. 27 Wichita State Shockers (9-1) 6-4 in front of a crowd of 2,864 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday.
Keahi Rawlins (0-1) took the loss for UH while Jereme Foster (2-0) got the win.
Daniel Magana led the way for UH, going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, one run scored and a stolen base. Brian Finegan continued to swing the hot bat, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Brent Cook also added a 2-for-5 day with one RBI.
Rawlins had a solid outing for the Rainbows, going 4.1 inning, giving up just one hit while striking out four and walking one. He left the game without giving up a run, but two runs were credited to him after he left.
Wichita State opened up the scoring with a three-run second inning. The score stayed at 3-0 until the seventh inning, when Magana and Finegan hit back-to-back two-out doubles that brought in three runs to tie the game at 3-3.
The Shockers would then respond with a three-run eighth inning to go back up 6-3. Cook would drive in a run in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough as the 'Bows would fall 6-4.
Hawai`i will next host Hawai`i Pacific on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 6:05 p.m. The Rainbows will then host UH-Hilo on the weekend at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 and at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.
