HONOLULU -- The UH Rainbow baseball team (8-18, 1-5 WAC) fell to the San Jose State Spartans (19-9, 5-4 WAC) 10-2 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. The ticketed attendance for the game was 2,576.
Jason Piepmeier earned the loss for the 'Bows while Matt Durkin pitched a three-hit, one run game for the win.
San Jose State started out strong, getting four quick runs in the first inning. That was all that pitcher Matt Durkin would need, as he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before finishing the game with an eight inning, three hit, one run, four strikeout win.
Doing the best for the Rainbows was Gregg Omori. Omori went 2-for-3 on the day with a double that broke up the no-hitter. The 'Bows had 18 different players step up to bat and used six different pitchers.
Hawai`i will now get ready for the 27th Ohana Hotels and Resorts Rainbow Easter Tournament. They will play their first game of the tournament on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. against the Birmingham Southern Panthers.
