NO. 2 WARRIORS DROP FIRST ROAD MATCH OF THE YEAR TO NO. 6 GAUCHOS: Fall Into a Tie for MPSF Lead Despite 19 Kills from Theocharidis

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Warrior volleyball team (13-4, 10-2 MPSF) got 19 kills from national player of the year Costas Theocharidis but could not duck a hot-hitting UC Santa Barbara (14-6, 10-6) club that posted a .387 attacking percentage and posted 12.5 blocks en route to a three-game sweep, 30-27, 30-25, 30-25, at Robertson Gym on the Gauchos' campus.

Hawaii lost the first set, 30-27 to drop their first set after posting consecutive three set sweeps in its previous four matches. Theocharidis put down 8 kills in 15 swings on a .467 clip in game one to spark the Warriors, who were out hit, .415 to .265.

After dropping the second set, 30-25, the Warriors were out hit .323 to .167 in game three to fall into a tie for the MPSF lead with UCLA and Pepperdine. Gauchos' outside hitter Andy Rivera rebounded from a six kill evening in the series opener to register 18 kills on a .379 attack percentage to key UC Santa Barbara.

Warrior freshman outside hitter Jose Delgado followed-up a career-high 19 kills on Tuesday with 12 more tonight. Delgado swung 25 times to register .320 attack percentage.

Hawaii continues its road trip this Friday and Saturday at Cal State Northridge, with game times set for 7:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast back to the 50th state on KCCN (1420 AM).
