The University of Wahine basketball put head coach Vince Goo one step closer to 300 career wins with a 73-53 win over Nevada Thursday at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Wahine improved to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the WAC.
The Wahine starters performed the brunt of the work. Four starters scored in double figures led by Natasja Allen's 17 points. Janka Gabrielova had 14 points, including 4-of-5 from 3-point land and added six assists. Christen Roper recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Karena Greeny added 10 points and eight rebounds.
April Atuaia scored nine points and was the only starter not in double figures scoring, yet the sophomore guard contributed a game-high eight assists, tying a career-best.
Leading 17-14 10 minutes into the game, UH went on a 9-2 run to establish a double-digit cushion that they would hold for the rest of the game. The Wahine led 33-22 at the break and were never threatened in the second half, leading by as many as 25 points.
UH held the Wolf Pack (6-11, 3-5) to just 33 percent shooting for the game and allowed just one 3-pointer in 11 attempts. The Wahine meanwhile, continued their hot shooting, nailing 7-of-12 from behind the arc.
The win was career number 299 for Goo who will look to reach the 300 milestone versus Fresno State on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
