WARRIORS ROLL ON WITH 34-10 OVER SAN JOSE STATE

Box Score

HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai'ì won it's fifth straight game, a first since 1984, with a 34-10 victory over San Jose State in a Western Athletic Conference game before 36,566 Saturday night at Aloha Stadium.

The Warrior defense held the Spartans to 375 total yards and had two interceptions that led to touchdowns while quarterback Nick Rolovich worked his signature second half magic to help the Warriors remain in a tie for second place in the WAC race.

The Spartans managed 20 first downs and held the ball for 39:30 but could not take advantage of scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Despite losing two fumbles early in the game, Hawai'i (6-2, 5-2 WAC) managed to take an early lead on two field goals by Justin Ayat.

In the second quarter, the Spartans took advantage of a third UH fumble to get on the board on a 44-yard field goal by Nick Gilliam.

Just before the break Spartans were pinned at their own 2-yard line when Hawai'i's Kelvin Millhouse intercepted Clint Carlson that set up a 18-yard touchdown pass from Nick Rolovich to Craig Stutzmann on the next play to give the Warriors a 13-3 halftime lead.

San Jose State (2-6, 2-3 WAC) put together a 7-play 69-yard drive capped by a 5-yard touchdown run by Jamar Julien to get the Spartans within three coming out of the locker room.

On its next possession, San Jose State drove to the UH 26 and looked to take the lead but the drive was halted by an interception by UH safety Jacob Espiau in the endzone. One play later, the Warriors were in Spartan territory after Ashley Lelie made a 49-yard circus catch from Rolovich. Thero Mitchell capped a 4-play, 80-yard drive with a 18-yard touchdown dash around the right side to put Hawai'i up 20-10 with 7:12 left in the third quarter.

Mitchell put the Warriors up by 17 on a 20-yard touchdown run early in the fourth. Justin Colbert put the game out of reach when Rolovich found him wide open down the left sideline for a 39-yard score to make it 34-10 with 6:20 to play.

Next week the Warriors celebrate Homecoming against Boise State in a WAC game on Nov. 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
