Box Score
RENO, Nev. – Hawaii junior attacking midfielder
Tiffany Makue set a new school record with three assists as the Wahine rallied to scored three second half goals to defeat Nevada, 4-1 in a Western Athletic Conference women's soccer match at Mackay Stadium.
The Wahine opened the scoring at 11:51, when Makue placed a one-touch flick over the Wolf Pack defense to give Arlene Devitt an open run at the goal. Devitt scored her team-leading 8th goal of the year with a well-placed right-footed shot. Senior defender Erin Schremser sent the ball to Makue to also receive an assist on the score.
The Wolf Pack rebounded with a score of their own at 22:25, when Kaula Rowe ran onto a loose ball and tapped the bouncing ball into the net with a soft header from point blank range.
After the intermission, Veronica Flores netted her first score of the year to post the game-winner at 54:55. Freshman wing Natalie Grounewoud made a long run up the right flank and dropped a pass off to senior Carmel Hurley, who sent a one-touch right-footed cross towards Flores, who headed a shot inside the far post.
The Wahine struck again at 77:10, when Schremser slammed a right-footer past Nevada keeper Janet Wildemuth from about 16-yards out off an indirect kick. After a foul was whistled against Nevada inside the penalty box, the Wahine set-up with Makue and freshman defender Kristalynn Ontai standing near the ball. Makue tapped the ball to Ontai, who settled it for Schremser. Both Makue and Ontai were credited with assists.
Nevada native Tasha Rowe scored the final goal of the match for the Wahine at 83:55, when she took a pass from Makue at the top of the Nevada penalty box, turned right and sent a shot over the on-rushing keeper for her first collegiate score.
The seven assists for the Wahine set a new program mark, surpassing the five they posted in a 5-1 win at home against UTEP last week.
At 3-3 in WAC play, the Wahine are in good standing to qualify for a berth in the WAC championship tournament in Dallas early next month. The six teams with the best league records will qualify.
