2012 (Junior): As a kick returner, named to several All-America teams including, honorable mention by SI.com, third team by CBSSports.com, fourth team by Phil Steele, and first team by College Sports Madness...one of three finalists for the Jet Award, given to the nation’s top return specialists...also selected as the Mountain West’s Special Teams Player of the Year...was named to the first-team as a return specialist and to the second-team as a defensive back...also selected to College Sports Madness and Phil Steele’s all-MW first team as a kick returner and College Sports Madness second team defensive back…mentioned on Phil Steele’s Midseason All-America third team…led the country in kickoff return yardage with 1,215 – which also set new UH and MW single-season records – and ranked sixth nationally with a 30.4 average...was one of only four players nationally with at least three kickoff returns for touchdown...his three scores set new UH and MW single-season marks and he is the only player in MW history to record two 100-yard kick returns in a single season...also became the school’s career kickoff return yardage leader (2,301) as well as kickoff touchdowns leader (3)...returned kickoffs for touchdowns against Lamar, Boise State, and New Mexico, which earned him College Football Performance Awards’ national kick returner of the week honors each week...defensively, ranked 11th nationally and first in the MW with 17 passes defended, which includes two interceptions...was the team’s fourth-leading tackler with 43 and had five tackles for loss and one forced fumble...against USC’s top receiver tandem of Robert Woods and Marquise Lee, gave up only four catches for 27 yards and a touchdown to Woods and one catch for 18 yards to Lee...also held BYU’s top receiver Cody Hoffman without a catch...recorded a season-high seven tackles and three pass breakups in the season-opener against USC...received the team’s Alec Waterhouse Most Valuable Player Award...one of four team captains.
2011 (Sophomore): Named to Phil Steele’s all-WAC second team as a kick-return specialist and third team as a defensive back…played in all 13 games and started 12 at cornerback…recorded 43 tackles including 1.5 for loss…also had 11 pass breakups and one interception…tied for seventh in the WAC and 55th nationally with 12 passes defended…averaged 24.7 yards on 44 kick returns, which ranked second in the WAC and 42nd nationally…had a long of 58 yards at Washington (Sept. 10)…had six tackles, three pass breakups and an interception at San Jose State (Oct. 14).
Prior To UH: Redshirted at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas in 2010...played 2009 season at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville...played in eight games as a true freshman…tallied five tackles in limited action.
Prep: A 2009 graduate of Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio…a three-year letterwinner in football...helped team to three conference titles, one regional title and a state championship...one publication rated him as the 21st-best cornerback in the country and 21st overall prospect in the state of Ohio…also rated No. 36 cornerback nationally by ESPN…as a senior, named first team all-Ohio and all-district…named one of the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Top 40 high school football players…team MVP as a senior...accounted for 34 tackles and five interceptions…a standout return specialist, who averaged 20 yards on punt returns and almost 33 yards on kick returns…also a track standout...helped team to two conference track titles.
