HONOLULU – The Hawai'i soccer team closes out its season-opening homestand when it takes on New Mexico State and Washington State in the OUTRIGGER No Ka Oi Thursday and Sunday.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will look to continue building momentum coming off of back-to-back shutout victories over Idaho and Hawai'i Pacific as the nonconference portion of the schedule winds down. UH has never beaten either the Aggies or Cougars, owning a 0-3-1 record against NMSU and an 0-8 mark vs. WSU.

OFFENSIVE ONSLAUGHT
UH is coming off of a historic offensive performance, winning 7-0 in its last match against Hawai'i Pacific. The seven goals are the third-most in a match in program history and the most scored by the Rainbow Wahine under head coach Michele Nagamine. Anuhea Aluli delivered the first hat trick by a UH player since 2018 while Tatum Porter found the back of the net twice for her first career brace. A pair of freshmen scored their first collegiate goals as Jas Cayetano and Parisa Abedi each got on the board. Hawai'i out-shot HPU 34-0, marking the second time ever UH held an opponent shotless.
 
HOME IN MANOA
Hawai'i will begin the season by playing at least its first seven home matches at its newly completed Lower Campus field, marking the first time since 2019 that UH has played regular season matches in Manoa. UH will play its first seven matches at its on-campus field following a temporary move away from Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium that was announced a week prior to the start of the season. The Rainbow Wahine are 10-7-2 all-time when playing on campus, playing four home matches on their lower campus field in 2019, one in 2013 and the entire nine-match home schedule in Manoa in 1999.
 
INSTANT IMPACT
Forward Anuhea Aluli has made an immediate impact through just five matches in a Rainbow Wahine uniform. Aluli currently leads the Mountain West with five goals scored and 11 points, thanks to a hat trick vs. HPU the last time out. The Hau'ula native became the first Rainbow Wahine player to record a hat trick since 2018 (Raisa Strom-Okimoto), while her performance was the 14th hat trick in program history. A 2022 graduate of Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, Aluli has recorded a point in each of the last four matches, the first UH player to accomplish that since 2017 (Sonest Furtado).
 
FRESH FACES
Hawai'i's talented freshman class has already begun to make an impact, with a number of them playing key minutes on opening weekend. A group of eight freshmen in Parisa Abedi, Cora Bryant, Jas Cayetano, Pana'ewa Cayetano, Olivia Dianda, Ella Gollis and Anna Maertz combined for 1,260 minutes of playing time in UH's first five matches while three of them earned a start in at least four of the matches.
 
» Dianda earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors after scoring a goal each in matches vs. Western Michigan and Idaho.
» Pan'ewa Cayetano has started all five matches on the back line, averaging 78.6 minutes per match.
» Jas Cayetano has a goal and two assists, scoring her first collegiate goal in Saturday's win over HPU.
» Abedi found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career Saturday while also dishing out an assist later in the match.
» Gollis and Maertz have each gotten extensive action off the bench, with Gollis logging 133 minutes and  Maertz earning 108 minutes of playing time through four matches.
» Both Jas and Pan'ewa Cayetano were Hawai'i all-state selections out of Mililani HS and Kamehameha-Kapalama, respectively.
