HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i football team placed five members on the 2026 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award Watch List, announced by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame.

Representing the Rainbow Warriors on this year's watch list are sophomore quarterback Micah Alejado, senior wide receiver Pofele Ashlock, junior safety Kona Moore, senior safety Matagi Thompson, and sophomore wide receiver Tama Uiliata.

The prestigious award is presented annually to the most outstanding college football player of Polynesian ancestry who epitomizes exceptional ability and integrity both on and off the field. This year's watch list features 69 players from 36 different NCAA Division I programs.

This year's selection marks the third consecutive watch list appearance for Ashlock, who was also named to the list in 2024 and '25.  Alejado, Moore, Thompson, and Uiliata are making their debuts on the national list.

While no UH player has ever won the award since its inception in 2014, four Rainbow Warriors have been named finalists in the past: Darius Muasau (2020), John Ursua (2018), Jahlani Tavai (2017), and Scott Harding (2014).

The watch list was compiled by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee based on past performance and future potential. Additional players may be added as the 2026 season progresses.

Five finalists for the 2026 award will be unveiled on Dec. 8, 2026, with the winner announced on Dec. 15, 2026.  The winner will be formally recognized during the Polynesian Bowl on Jan.15, 2027, and presented with the trophy at the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Celebration Dinner on Jan. 16, 2027.
