IRVINE, Calif. – For the second consecutive week, University of Hawai'i junior right-hander Isaiah Magdaleno has been named the Big West Pitcher of the Week following another dominant Friday night start.
 
Magdaleno earned the back-to-back conference honor after stifling UC Davis in the weekend series opener on Friday at Dobbins Stadium. The Los Angeles native tossed eight stellar innings, allowing just one run on four hits to guide the Rainbow Warriors to a 4-1 victory. He struck out nine Aggies and issued only a single walk, needing exactly 100 pitches to navigate his outing and earn his sixth win of the season.
 
It's also the third time this season that Magdaleno has claimed Big West Pitcher of the Week honors. He is the first pitcher in the conference since 2021 (Rodney Boone, UC Santa Barbara) to earn the weekly award three times in a season. Magdaleno is also the first UH pitcher ever to win Big West Pitcher of the Week three times in a season.
 
Last week, Magdaleno captured his Big West Pitcher of the Week honors—along with National Pitcher of the Week recognition from multiple outlets—just days prior after delivering a historic complete-game, one-hit shutout against UC Riverside on May 1. During that masterpiece, he carried a perfect game through 6.1 innings and struck out 16 batters, becoming just the third pitcher in program history to reach the 16-strikeout mark in a single game.
 
Magdaleno has firmly established himself as one of the elite arms on the West Coast after seamlessly transitioning from the closer role last season to Hawai'i's Friday night ace this year. In his last two starts, he has struck out 25 batters while walking just two over 17.0 innings, allowing only one run on five hits. With his nine punchouts against the Aggies, Magdaleno boosted his season total to 98 strikeouts over 80.0 innings of work.
