'AIEA, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team faced a long, weather-tested day at the Pearl at Kalauao in the first two rounds of the 40
th Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational presented by OUTRIGGER, Tuesday.
Midday rain showers added an extra layer of difficulty to the 6,077-yard course, slowing down play and forcing the final groups to finish in the early evening just as darkness began to settle in. Despite the elements, the Rainbow Wahine remain in the mix, currently sitting in 11th place with a two-round total of 605 (+37).
Leading the charge for Hawai'i is
Jasmine Wong, who followed up an impressive even-par opening round with a 74 (+3). Wong's two-day total of 145 (+3) has her tied for 21
st place in a highly competitive field that features several top-tier programs. Not far behind is
Maline Kraus, who turned in a steady performance with a second consecutive 73 (+2) to sit in a tie for 24
th at 146 (+4).
Second-ranked Southern California leads the team standings at 22-under, fueled by a field-best 270 in the second round. Arizona State (-6) and Texas State (-5) round out the top three. USC's Jasmine Koo holds the clubhouse lead at 7-under, two strokes ahead of teammate Bailey Shoemaker.
The rest of the UH lineup worked hard to navigate the wet conditions.
Emiko Sverduk sits at 157 (+15), followed by
Chloe Ku and
Sofina Firouzi, who are currently tied for 66
th place with matching totals of 159 (+17). Competing as an individual,
Kaydence Kim provided a bright spot, improving on her first-round score with a 75 (+4) to move into a tie for 49
th place.
Action concludes Wednesday with the third and final round with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
