LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Coming off the program's second Big West Conference championship, the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will make its sixth ever appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament on Thursday, March 19 at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore.
After receiving the automatic bid into the national championship tournament as the No. 13 seed of the West Bracket, the Rainbow Warriors will travel to Portland, to take on the No. 4 seed Arkansas, winners of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Arkansas enters the tournament with a 26-8 record and defeated Vanderbilt 86-75 in the SEC Tournament. The Razorbacks captured their first SEC title since 2000 and just the second in program history.
UH and Arkansas have met twice all-time – both in 1977 in Honolulu – with the Razorbacks winning both meetings, 79-60 and 78-53 on back-to-back days.
Hawai'i will be making its first appearance in the NCAAs since 2016 during head coach
Eran Ganot's debut season. As the 13th-seed in that tournament, the 'Bows upset No. 4 seed California for the program's first-ever NCAA victory before falling to No. 5 Maryland in the second round.
UH also appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 1972, '94, 2001, and '02 and has a 1-5 all-time mark. Arkansas has 36 all-time appearances and one national championship in 1994.
Tip-off has yet to be set and will be announced in the near future along with ticket information and other details.
