Men's Tennis Falls to Washington

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (1-2) fell to Washington, 6-1 on Saturday evening at the UH Tenbis Comlex. A rain delay pushed back the start of the match by about an hour.

The Huskies claimed the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. UW's No. 2 pair of Stephane Kamendje/Nikola Plavsic defeated UH's Toa Maeda/Azuma Visaya, 6-3. And on the No. 1 court, Washington's Soham Purohit/Brett Pearson held off UH's Timothy Li/Kosuke Nakanishi by a break, 6-4.

Hawai'i rookie Toa Maeda recorded his first collegiate singles win, defeating UW's Brett P=earson in straight sets on the No. 4 court. Maeda cruised in the first set, but held off Pearson for the sweep, 6-1, 7-5.

UH senior Azuma Visaya gave everything he had, but fell short to 89th-ranked Soham Purohit in a pair of sets decided by tie-breakers, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-2).

The 'Bows continue their 25-day homestand at the UH Tennis Complex on Friday Jan. 30th when they will face off against BYU at 4:00 p.m. HT.
