SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Led by a pair of top five individual finishers, the Hawai'i cross country team put together a third-place finish in its first road meet of the season at The Master's University Invitational Saturday.
Emilie Kirk Langschwager and
Zola O'Donnell combined on a 2-3 UH finish to spearhead the Rainbow Wahine effort, with the team finishing the day with 92 points.
"The student-athletes we raced today competed really well in our first travel meet," said head coach
Tim Boyce. "I'm really pleased with the effort they put in and I'm looking forward to the continued development of this squad in the weeks ahead."
Kirk Langschwager turned in a runner-up finish with a 6k time of 21:36.10 to post her second consecutive top-three finish to begin the season. O'Donnell followed in third place with a time of 21:56.70 to follow up a fourth-place finish at the season-opening Big Wave Invitational, giving her a pair of top-five results to start the season.
Lucy Becker cracked the individual top 20 with a 6k personal best of 22:45.70 to put her in 17th place overall, while
Harriet Greentree came in 21st with a mark of 22:53.50 in her first collegiate 6k race.
Bella De Freitas rounded out the UH top five with a time of 23:53.00 to come in 55th.
The Rainbow Wahine return home and are scheduled to a group of runners to compete at the HPU Invitational, Sept. 27 at Hawai'i Country Club.
