Five 'Bows Earn Academic All-District Softball Honors

HONOLULU — Five members of the University of Hawai'i softball team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team on Tuesday in recognition of their performances on the field and in the classroom.
 
UH juniors Amelia "Millie" Fidge and Carys Murakami and sophomores Milan Ah Yat, Macy Brandl and Jamie McGaughey represented the Rainbow Wahine on the Division I list.
 
The academic qualification for the Academic All-District teams is a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 90% of the season's games or started in 66% of the games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.
 
Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 17.
 
Macy Brandl, sophomore
  • Majoring in Kinesiology, Health and Exercise Science.
  • Made 31 pitching appearances with 25 starts.
  • Named All-Big West Honorable Mention.
  • Led the team in innings (160), wins (17), saves (2), earned-run average (3.33), complete games (16), shutouts (6), strikeouts (81) and opponent batting average (.250).

Amelia "Millie" Fidge, junior
  • Majoring in Kinesiology, Health and Exercise Science.
  • Made 20 appearances as a pitcher and threw 53 1/3 innings.
  • Also made eight starts as a hitter and drove in nine runs.
 
Carys Murakami, junior
  • Majoring in Psychology.
  • Started all 53 games at second base.
  • Led the team with five stolen bases and tied for the team lead with 28 runs scored.
 
Jamie McGaughey, junior
  • Majoring in Accounting.
  • Started all 53 games at first base.
  • Named All-Big West second team.
  • Led the team and the Big West with 13 home runs.
  • Led the team with 39 RBIs, a .647 slugging percentage and 1.066 OPS.
  • Posted a 1.000 fielding percentage in a team-high 299 chances.
 
Milan Ah Yat, sophomore
  • Majoring in Sociology.
  • Started all 53 games at shortstop.
  • Named All-Big West Honorable Mention.
  • Ranked third on the team with seven doubles and five home runs.
