HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i softball team (16-11, 2-3 Big West) returns home to host UC Davis in a three-game conference series at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The two teams will open with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 22 and conclude with a single game on Sunday, March 23. First pitch for both days is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. HT.

Last Week: The Aggies swept their Cal Poly series last week in Davis. UCD defeated the Mustangs twice on Saturday, 2-1 and 5-2, then shut out Cal Poly in the series finale, 5-0. The sweep over the Mustangs resulted in Caroline Grimes and Alyssa Dethlesfson earning Big West Pitcher and Freshman of the Week honors.
QUICK HITSLAST WEEK
In a rain-shortened series at CSUN, Hawai'i split their doubleheader against the Matadors. CSUN won the opener, 4-1 but the 'Bows bounced back to hold off CSUN, 4-3. The third game of the series will hopefully be made up later this season.
HOME RUNS HELPING TO PROPEL HAWAI'I
UH leads the Big West in both total home runs (20) and home runs per game (.74). Seven different Rainbow Wahine have launched at least one homer season. Sophomore first baseman
Jamie McGaughey leads UH and is ranked third in the Big West with six thus far. Ah Yat is second on the team with four while
Chloe Borges and
Liliana Thomas gave cranked three apiece. Kayara Tuiloma has launced two and both Millie Fidge and
Ellyanna Cinzori have one home run each.
DEFENSE LEADING BIG WEST
Even though the Rainbow Wahine comitted an uncharacteristic four errors in the doubleheader at CSUN, the 'Bows continue to lead the league with a .975 fielding percentage which ranks them 19thh in the NCAA DI. Last week, UH was No. 6 in the NCAA in fielding percentage at .979.
MURAKAMI RISES TO LEAD UH OFFENSE
Junior second baseman
Carys Murakami hit .500 last week, going a team-best 3-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored against her former team, CSUN. Overall, the Maryknoll graduate has risen to the top recording team-bests with a .353 batting average, 13 runs scored and six multiple-hit games. Murakami is also second on the team with 24 hits and is one of four players to have drawn at least 11 walks. In conference play, Murakami is tied with
Jamie McGaughey with a team-high .417 average (5-for-12). Currently, she is on a four-game hitting streak coming into this week. After hitting primarily at No. 6 or 7 for most of the season, in UH's most recent game at CSUN, she slid into the No. 2 slot in the line up going 2-for-4 with a run in Northridge.
MARTINEZ SETTING THE TABLE
As UH's leadoff batter, senior catcher
Izabella Martinez reached base safely in the first 15-straight games and in 22-of-27 games thus far this year. Martinez leads UH with 27 hits, with eight doubles, and 17 walks. The senior from Garden Grove, Calif. has started the last 102-straight games at catcher going back to her sophomore season.
PITCHING STAFF HOLDING OWN
UH's pitching staff has the 'Bows ranked second in the league with a 3.44 ERA. UH senior starter
Addison Kostrencich enters this week with an overall record of 8-6 with a 2.51 ERA. She has eight complete games with two shutouts thus far with 38 strikeouts to 16 walks in 78.0 innings pitched. Sophomore starter
Macy Brandl is currently 7-4 overall with a 4.01 ERA. Brandl has seven complete games under her belt with three shutouts and a save in 76.1 innings of work. She has 42 strikeouts to 24 walks thus far. Junior Millie Fidge has emerged as the primary reliever appearing in five of UH's last eight games.
FINDING A DESIGNATED PLAYER
Junior
Ellyanna Cinzori had started eight-straight games and nine overall as the designated player, but was replaced by freshman Kolbi Koshi who hit .500 at season going 2-for-4 at the plate with both hits coming as doubles. She was a spark to the team as she also scored a run and drove in two in the CSUN split. Overall, four Rainbow Wahine have gotten shots as the team's DP. Including Cinzori's nine starts and Kochi's eight starts, Millie Fidge has made seven starts and
Alyssa Nakagawa started three games.
