HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (5-4, 3-0 Big West) bounced back after a tough roadtrip to defeat UC San Diego, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex to remain unbeated in conference action. The Rainbow Wahine jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles and continued their momentum through singles play.

In doubles, the 'Bows took all three matches. On Court No. 3, UH's Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno defeated Tritons' duo of Grace Gamal and Katelyn Vu, 6-4, to capture the first match. The Rainbow Wahine duo of Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova held off UCSD's Kelly Leung and Adriana Tabares by a break, 6-4, to capture the doubles point. On Court No. 1, UH's of Sheena Masuda and Peppi Ramstedt edged out the UCSD duo of Julia Haynes and Naomi Nguyen, 7-5. 

In singles, the 'Bows kept up their energy, winning four of the six singles matches. UH's No. 4 Emma Forgac led things off by defeating Grace Gamal in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. On the No. 3 court, Nikola Homolkova followed with a straight-set win of her won, defeating UCSD's Kelly Leung, 6-3, 6-3. After falling on court No. 5, Hawai'i's Joelle Lanz clinched the match for the Rainbow Wahine with a hard fought win over Katelyn Vu, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. After the match was decided, Ana Vilcek completed her match defeating Tritons' Allison Lian in straight sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

The Rainbow Wahine enjoy two weeks off but continue Big West play starting Mar. 15 at UC Davis at 8:00 a.m. HT.
