IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i women's tennis player
Peppi Ramstedt earned her first Big West Player of the Week award as a Rainbow Wahine on Wednesday. Ramsted went 2-0 in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the 'Bows split their matches 1-1 last week.
Ramstedt, a senior from Helsinki, Finland, played at the top of the order for the Rainbow Wahine last week. She helped UH build a 3-0 lead before the Gaels came back for the win. Against Saint Mary's, Ramsted defeated Iman Khan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 in singles and in doubles, Ramstedt and partner
Sheena Masuda nearly shutout SMC's Tiana Fox and Khan, 6-1.
Ramstedt cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over North Dakota's Andrea Pineda. In doubles, Ramstedt and Masuda again dominated, defeating the Fighting Hawks' Ethel Li and Aziza Aubin, 6-1.
This is Ramsted's second career BW Player of the Week award. Last season, she earned the honor as a member of the Long Beach State women's tennis team on Jan. 24, 2024.
Overall Ramstedt is tied with a team-high six singles wins and has won her last five-straight matches. In doubles with partner Masuda, they are 5-7 overall and have won their last three-consecutive matches.
