Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i softball team (10-3) split their opening doubleheader at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Friday. The Rainbow Wahine dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to BYU in their opener, but battled back to shut down Nevada, 4-0 in the night cap. UH starter Addison Kostrencich earned her first complete game shutout of the season against the Wolf Pack at the Big League Dreams complex in Cathedral City, Calif.

Hawai'i 4, Nevada 0

After giving up a leadoff single to Izabella Martinez to start the game, Nevada starter Hailey McLean proceeded to strikeout the next nine-straight batters. UH gave McLean her first loss of the season, dropping her record to 6-1. In the loss, McLean struck out 15 batters while giving up four runs on three hits with two walks.

UH's defense got two quick outs to start the second, but the Wolf Pack linked three-straight singles together to load the bases. But the 'Bows were able to escape any damage ending the frame with a fly out to left.

Gibbs got plunked to start off the fourth inning. After a strikeout, Borges reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in a throwing error by the second baseman to leave both runners safe at first and second. Jamie McGaughey was then beaned to load the bases for Milan Ah Yat. Ah Yat laced a double to the left-center gap to clear the bases driving in Gibbs, Borges and pinch runner Sunni Kahanu for a 3-0 lead.

Nevada's Bailie Clark led off the bottom of the sixth with a single up the middle. The next batter, Aaliyah Jenkins had a good at-bat, but struck out swinging. On the play Martinez gunned out Clark trying to steal second for a double play. UH got a flyout to left to end the frame.

Hawai'i added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Martinez led the inning off with a single to center and she hustled into second off a fielding error on the centerfielder. Pinch runner Ellyanna Cinzori advanced to second off a fly out to right by Gibbs, but the throw into third sailed into the UH dugout allowing Cinzori to score to give UH a 4-0 lead with a half inning to play.

Nevada's first two runners in the seventh reached base safely on an error and a single to center. Both runners moved into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt. But the 'Bows got a pop out to short and a strikeout to end the game.
