The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team will embark on a four-match road trip through the state of North Carolina this week. The Rainbow Warriors (9-1) will face Belmont Abbey, Thursday, Feb. 20 in Belmont, N.C., followed by a two-match series against Queens, Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22 in Charlotte, N.C. On Saturday, UH will play a rare doubleheader, playing at Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., prior to its match against Queens.

First Meeting


FIRST SERVE

• Hawai'i last travelled to the state of North Carolina in 2023 with single matches against Queens, Belmont Abbey, and Barton. UH won all three matches in straight sets including the first-ever match-up — and thus far only meeting — against Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C.
• The last time UH played a doubleheader was in 2022 at the First Point Challenge in Austin, Texas, where they played both Fairleigh Dickinson and Queens on the opening day of the tournament. Prior to that, UH played a doubleheader at the 2018 Grow the Game Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., against Grand Canyon & Lincoln Memorial.
• The Rainbow Warriors (9-1) had a bye last week and are coming off their first loss of the season to Stanford, Feb. 7 in Honolulu. UH, who continues to hold on to its No. 4 national ranking, is 2-0 on the road this season.
• UH is 5-0 all-time against Queens, including a 3-0 mark in Charlotte, N.C. The teams played a two-match series in Charlotte in 2019 and a single-match in 2023. Hawai'i has won all five matches in straight sets.
• UH and Catawba will meet for the first time. Catawba College is a first-year Division II school located in Salisbury, N.C. The Indians are coached by two-time AVCA National Coach of the Year Bill Ferguson, who led USC to a pair of national runner-up finishes in 2009 and '12.
• Belmont Abbey (5-5), the preseason favorites of the Conference Carolinas, will play at Erskine on Tuesday prior the UH match. The Crusaders are 3-1 in Conference Carolina matches this season with their only loss to Mount Olive. The Abbey played top-ranked Long Beach State in The Silver Showcase in Reno, Nev., falling 3-0.
• Queens (9-5), who is in its second year of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, is coming off a two-match split of Purdue Fort Wayne last week in Wayne, Ind. The Royals are 2-2 in MIVA play this season have non-conference wins over Belmont Abbey (3-0) and Catawba (3-1) this season.
• UH has a 12-0 all-time mark against current teams of Conference Carolinas. The only current member Hawai'i has not faced is Mount Olive.
• UH has a 68-13 combined record against current members of the MIVA which includes a pair of wins over McKendree this season. Quincy is the only current MIVA team which UH has not played.
