Box Score t HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (7-1) got a pair of clutch, RBI singles by Jamie McGaughey paired with a complete game win by Macy Brandl to defeat Sacramento State, 2-1 on Day Three of the Spring Fling Tournament on Saturday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Hawai'i improved to 7-1 for its best start since 2012 when the Rainbow Wahine started the season 21-0. It marked UH's third-straight come-from-behind win.
 
The Hornets however started the game with a bang as Katie Marsh led the game off with a solo home run to centerfield for a quick 1-0 lead.
 
UH responded in the bottom of the first, Jamie McGaughey came to the plate with runners on first and second with two outs. McGaughey came through driving a single up the middle to score Yamamoto from second to knot the score at 1-1.
 
Hawai'i then took the lead in the third. McGaughey's timely hitting with the bases loaded drove in pinch runner Maya Ichimura from third with a single to right to give UH a 2-1 lead.
 
After giving up the leadoff homer in the first, Brandl settled down to blank the Hornets for the final six innings. She allowed one run on four hits with a walk and a UH career-high seven strikeouts. She struck out the side in the seventh to preserve the 2-1 win. Brandl and the UH defense allowed only one runner to reach second base for the game.
 
The Spring Fling Tournament concludes on Sunday, Feb. 16. Hawai'i will play two games. First the 'Bows will face Cal State Bakersfield in a non-conference game at 12:00 p.m. HT and Utah Tech at 2:30 p.m. HT.
