Swim & Dive Wins Six Events, Highlighted by Two Record-Breaking Performances at Big West Championships

HOUSTON — The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim and dive teams won six of 10 events, highlighted by two record-breaking performances on day two of the Big West Championships at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston.

The 'Bows claimed a total 11 medals including six golds, four silvers and a bronze. Karol Ostrowski has contributed to all three of UH's record-breaking performances this week, setting new Big West records in the 50 free and as a member of the 200 free relay team today, as well as the men's 200 medley relay yesterday.

Ostrowski continued to make history by setting a new Big West record in the 50 free with a blazing lead-off time of 19.14. Ostrowski also posted a 50 free time of 19.28 to earn gold and achieve an NCAA B-cut qualifying time.

Holly Nelson secured gold in the 50 free with a new personal best and the eighth fastest time in Rainbow Wahine history with a time of 22.57. Nelson's swim was also an NCAA B-cut qualifying time.

The Rainbow Warrior 200 free relay A team of Ostrowski, Dietrich Meyer, Jordan Meacham and Grant Stoddard set a new Big West record with their first place finish time of 1:16.01. The Rainbow Wahine 200 free relay A team of Zofia Tyminska, Alexa Ozment, Alexia Kovaluk and Nelson secured another first place finish with a mark of 1:30.74.
 


Brandon Shepherd claimed the 3-meter dive championship after posting a final score of 323.65. Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo followed in second with a mark of 321.70.
 


Rainbow Wahine claimed all three spots on the podium for the 1-meter dive, led by freshman Macie Wheeler who took home gold with a score of 307.90. Avery Coates finished in second with a mark of 274.25 and Ruby Pickron placed third with a score of 273.30.
 


Zofia Tyminska earned silver in the 200 IM with the third fastest mark in Rainbow Wahine history with a time of 1:58.70. Tyminska previously held the sixth fastest time in the event.

Stoddard finished in second place in the 50 free posting the third fastest time in UH history with a mark of 19.51.

The 'Bows resume action in the Big West Championships tomorrow with competition beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT (6:00 a.m. HT) and finals starting at 6:00 p.m. CT (2:00 p.m. HT) at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston.
