SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team entered Day 3 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southwest Regionals on Saturday. The Hawai'i duo of Sophie Rachor and Grete Gull won both their Main Draw doubles matches to punch their ticket into Sunday's quarterfinals at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif..
 
Rachor and Gull—both Hawai'i newcomers—started the day defeating San Diego's Hannah Read and Vilma Krebs Hyllested in the Round of 32, 8-4. The UH duo then returned to the court to defeat Cal Poly's Kennedy Buntrock and Candela Aparisi, 8-5 to advance to the quarterfinal round. On Sunday, the UH pair will face Pepperdine's second-seeded Alexia Harmon and Anastasiia Grechkina
 
In other main draw doubles action, Hawai'i's Makeilah Nepomuceno and Hanna Galindo fell to San Diego State's Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley, 8-3.
 
The Rainbow Wahine also had five competing in consolation singles matches. Nepomuceno led the 'Bows, winning in straight sets over UC Riverside's Katarina Curcic, 6-4, 6-2.  Three of UH's other four matches ended in third set super tie-breakers. Gull dropped her first set against Long Beach State's Cecilia Costa, but bounced back to blank Costa in the second set. But Gull was unable to keep pace with Costa in the tiebreaker, falling, 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-3). Hawai'i's Galindo evened her match by holding off Cal Poly's Sarah MacCallum by a break in the second set, but could not hold on in the super tie-breaker, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6). Emma Forgac also dropped her first set but fought back to take the second set by a break over UC San Diego's Julia Visaya. In the super tie-breaker, Visaya edged out Forgac for the win, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7).
 
The ITA Southwest Regionals continue on Sunday for Day 4 at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center in San Diego.
