HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i swimming and diving teams return home to host their home opening dual matches against Grand Canyon at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. This event marks the season debut for the Rainbow Wahine and Rainbow Warrior diving teams. The weekend starts on Friday, Oct. 24 with diving starting at 4:30 p.m. HT and swimming starting at 5:30 p.m. HT. On Saturday, Oct. 25th, diving will begin at 10:00 a.m. HT with swimming following at 11:00 a.m. HT.

UH also faced Grand Canyon in last season's UH home opener, which also featured back-to-back dual meets. The Rainbow Warriors swept the weekend with wins of 155-88 (Oct. 25) and 105-100 (Oct. 26), while the Rainbow Wahine earned victories of 170-92 (Oct. 25) and 109-76 (Oct. 26), respectively.
UH returns to action coming off a third-place finish at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif. Senior standout Mario Surkovic garnered Big West Athlete of the Week honors on Oct. 14 after leading the Rainbow Warriors to a second place finish in their first official meet of the season. Surkovic was responsible for four of the Rainbow Warriors' five podium finishes, highlighted by a new Canyonview Aquatic Center record in the 200 free relay, swam by Karol Ostrowski, Finn Brophy, Surkovic and Regan Richardson in 1:18.99. Woobie Kupsky also swam well and finished with the second-highest points accumulated in the meet. Although he did not place, he finished the weekend with a solid score of 73 in seven events.
The Rainbow Wahine collected three podium finishes in the opening weekend, led by a strong performances by freshman Brooke Bennett. Bennett, a rookie from Christchurch, New Zealand, showed off her versatility competing in both sprints and distance events. Her performances were highlighted by a silver medal finish in the 1650 free (17:00.12), which was just .69 seconds outside of a Top 10 UH ranking. Bennett also came in sixth in the 200 free clocking in at 1:50.23 and finished with UH's highest score of 50 with a point total of 686.2. Mia Blazhevska Eminova was right behind with a score of 49 in eight events.
The Rainbow Warrior diving team will be led by last season's Big West Men's Diver of the Year and Men's Freshman Diver of the Year, Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo. The native of Medellín, Colombia, was crowned last season's Big West Champion in the 1-meter and platform dives. The 'Bows will be without Brandon Shepherd, last year's Big West 3-meter champion.
The Rainbow Wahine diving team is headlined by Macie Wheeler, the reigning Big West Women's Diver of the Year and Women's Freshman Diver of the Year. In her rookie season, Wheeler became the first Rainbow Wahine to be crowned conference champion in all three diving events— 1-meter, 3-meter and platform—in a single season since 2016.
