HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team wrapped up their Manoa Fall Classic on Sunday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors won four singles and three doubles matches on the final day of competition.
In doubles, the Hawai'i duo of
Kosuke Nakanishima and
Kent Mueller held off UC San Diego's Trevor Nguyen and Andrew Becceiro by a break, 6-4. UH's
Ziwen Ju and
Tianhao Hou cruised to a 6-1 victory over Hawai'i Pacific's Yannick Heltzeberg and Seth Newman. The 'Bows'
Timothy Li and Hikau Takahashi defeated UCSD's Yaron Guberman and Prathinav Chunduru, 6-3.
Hawai'i's Nakanishi held off HPU's Ethan Terry by a break in the first then cruised in the second set for a straight-set win, 7-5, 6-1. The last three UH wins all came in three set battles. UH's
Adriano Dzhenev bounced back after dropping a first set tiebreaker to hold off HPU's Matteo Perrod in three, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-2. UH's Takahashi outlasted UCSD's Robert Freedman, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 and Hawai'i's Li battled his way back after falling in his first set against UCSD's David Adamson. Li hled off Adamson in a second-set tiebreaker then shut out the Triton in the third for the three-set victory, 5-7, 7-6 (6), 6-0.
A few members of the Rainbow Warriors will next compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southwest Regionals hosted by Arizona State at the Kiwanis Tennis Center). The tournament runs from Oct. 16-21.
