Swim Teams Close Out Triton Invitational with Multiple Top-Five Performances

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim teams wrapped up their final day of the UCSD Triton Invitational with multiple top-five placements at the Canyonview Aquatic Center on Saturday.. The combined team for Hawai'i finished in third place with a score of 1171.5. The men's squad finished second with a score of 654.5, while the women team finished in fourth with a final tally of 517 points.

The Rainbow Warrior's 200 free relay squad of Karol Ostrowski, Finn Brophy, Mario Surkovic and Regan Richardson set a new pool record holding off California for gold with a blazing-fast time of 1:18.99. It marked UH's top finish of the afternoon. The Rainbow Wahine 200 free relay team comprised of Holly Nelson, Zosia Tyminska, Aziza Meyer and Quincy Key captured bronze, touching the wall at 1:32.17.

Brophy secured the Rainbow Warriors' top finish in individual competition, placing second in the 100 free with a mark of 43.31, followed by Surkovic who finished third with a time of 43.52. Surkovic also placed fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 54.65.

Freshmen Brooke Bennett and Aoife Harkin had strong performances in the 1650 free. Bennett finished second with a mark of 17:00.12 to earn the Rainbow Wahine's highest finish in individual competition this weekend Harkin finished close behind coming in fourth with a time of 17:09.90.

In other standout swims, Ostrowski finished in fourth in the 100 fly, touching the wall at 47.41, while Eric Kupsky strung together a pair of top-five performances, placing fourth in the 400 IM (3:58.78) and fifth in the 1650 free (15:59.19).

UH returns to home for a pair of dual meets against Grand Canyon on Oct. 24-25 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. On Friday, diving will start at 4:30 p.m. HT with swimming starting at 5:30 p.m. HT. On Saturday, Oct. 25, diving will kick off at 10:00 a.m. HT with swimming beginning at 11:00 a.m. HT. The meet, which is UH's official home opener, will also mark the season debuts for the Rainbow Wahine and Rainbow Warrior dive teams.
