HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team hosted Hawai'i Pacific and UC San Diego on Day 1 of the 2025 Manoa Fall Classic on Friday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors won three of their four doubles matches and seven of their eight singles matches.

In doubles, the UH duo of Timothy Li and Kent Mueller defeated HPU's pair of Ethan Terry and Mile Matic, 6-3. The Rainbow Warriors tandem of Tianhao Hou and Kosuke Nakanishi edged out the Tritons' Yaron Guberman and Prathinav Chunduru in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3), while UH's Adriano Dzhenev and Toa Maeda knocked off UCSD's Zach Pellochoud and Trevor Nguyen, 7-5.

In singles, Hawaii's Li held off UCSD's Guberman in a hard fought tiebreaker in the first set, before shutting out the Triton in the second for a straight set win, 7-6 (8-6), 6-0. UH's Nakanishi cruised past UCSD's' Michael Fourticq, 6-4, 6-0, and 'Bows rookie Dzhenev captured the win against UCSD's Pellochoud, 6-2, 6-1. UH's  Mueller defeated the Sharks' Matteo Perrod, 6-3, 6-4. Hawaii's Toa Maeda battled it out in a match of momentum swings against HPU's Rene Gabriel Jung, winning in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. UH's Tianhao Hou also won in three sets, bringing down HPU's Yannick Heitzeberg, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1. Sharks' Jon William Karlstad won the second set to even his match vs. UH'freshman Hikaru Takahashi, but Takahashi prevailed in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

The 2025 Manoa Fall Classic will continue on Saturday, Oct. 11 beginning at 8:00 a.m. HT at the UH Tennis Complex. The teams will only be competing in twi rounds of doubles.
