HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's swim and dive teams opened 2025 with numerous runner-up finishes against Harvard and Arkansas at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. Harvard defeated Hawai'i 172-71 while Arkansas outscored UH, 130-113. The UH men's swim and dive teams competed in exhibition events on Thursday night as well.
In diving, Macie Wheeler placed the highest amongst the Rainbow Wahine, finishing third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 284.70 and fourth in the 3-meter dive with a mark of 306.00.
Juan Ramirez Tamayo and Brandon Shepherd were the lone contestants in the men's exhibition diving competitions. Tamayo placed first in both the 1-meter dive (297.20) and 3-meter dive (355.55). Shepherd finished the 1-meter dive with a mark of 264.45 and the 3-meter dive with a score of 259.40.
Catherine Belyakov came just a hair short of first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.85, just two hundredths of a second behind Stephanie Iannaccone of Harvard who posted a time of 2:02.83. In the 200 fly, Kailee Chow was edged out for the top spot in the first heat, finishing with a time of 2:03.08 right behind Harvard's Sydney Lu's winning time of 2:02.64. Chow later to won her 500 free heat, touching the wall at 5:07.55. Mandolin Nguyen added on to UH's runner-up finishes placing second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.15.
In the men's exhibition swimming action, Karol Ostrowski finished first in the 100 free (43.81), 100 Fly (48.71) and the 50 free (20.43). New mid-season addition Korey Tiell won the 100 back (51.23) and the 200 back (1:55.10) in his first appearance as a Rainbow Warrior.
The men's and women's swim and dive team host their final home meet of the season against Whitman at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 5:00 p.m. HT. The teams will be honoring its 22 seniors as the teams celebrate Senior Night at the conclusion on the meet.
