Women's Tennis Wraps Up Weinman Foundation Invitational

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team wrapped up the Weinman Foundation Invitational on Saturday morning at the UH Tennis Complex. On the final day of competition, No 2 Texas A&M, No. 17 Southern California and Hawai'i competed in doubles matches only to conclude the four-day tournament.

The UH duo of Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova earned Hawai'i's lone win on the day, but the Rainbow Wahine competed well on Saturday. Vilcek and Homolkova held off Texas A&M's Mia Kupres and Jeanette Mireles, 6-4 in the first round of doubles matches.

Hawai'i's pairing of Joelle Lanz and Emma Forgac fought hard in both of their matches, but both ended with them falling in tie-breakers. In their first match, Lanz and Forgac fell short against USC's Grace Piper and Lily Fairclough, 7-6 (7-4). In their second match, Lanz and Forgac were edged out by Texas A&M's Lucciana Perez and Daria Smetannikov, 7-6 (9-7).

UH's Peppi Ramstedt and Sheena Masuda played well but fell by a break in both of their matches on Saturday. Against Texas A&M's Nicole Khirin and Lexington Reed, UH's Ramstedt and Masuda fell 7-5 and later dropped their match against USC's Sloane Morra and Janna Hossam, 6-4.

The Rainbow Wahine will have a few days to regroup before they begin a pair of dual matches this coming week. First UH will take on Nevada on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10:00 a.m. HT followed by Washington on Friday, Jan. 17 at 3:00 p.m. HT.
