HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim teams swept the competition on Senior Night winning every event against Whitman College. The Rainbow Warriors defeated the Blues 155-64 while the Rainbow Wahine won, 161-59. It was the final home meet for 23 seniors at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex on Saturday night.
The seniors led the way for the Rainbow Warriors against the Blues with Milan Bukovics, Tomer Goldfadden, Karol Ostrowski and Kahiau Kea combining for eight wins individually. Bukovics won the 100 fly (49.33), 100 IM (50.28) and 100 back (50.65). Goldfaden placed first in the 50 breast (25.67) and 100 breast (56.35) and Ostrowski won the 50 fly (21.20) and 100 free (43.37). Kea finished first in the 50 back with a time of 23.76.
Aleks Tomasczewski and Victor Dagenais were also able to secure wins in the freestyle events for the Rainbow Warriors. Tomaszewski won the 50 free with a mark of 20.59 and Dagenais finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.15.
For the Rainbow Wahine, Mandolin Nguyen strung together a strong showing in her final meet at the DKAC winning the 50 breast (29.19) and 100 breast (1:03.22). Junior Holly Nelson secured victories in the 50 fly (24.87) and 100 fly (55.76). Seniors Catherine Belyakov and Nellie Thompson also captured victories, winning the 100 IM (56.17) and 50 free (24.57) respectively.
The Rainbow Wahine also dominated in the freestyle and backstroke events throughout the night. In addition to Thompson's 50 freestyle victory, Lola Davison earned gold in the 100 free with a time of 52.53 and Delara Ditterich won the 200 free with a mark of 1:58.57. Alexa Ozment placed first in the 50 back posting a time of 25.70 and Zofia Tyminska won the 100 back posting a mark of 56.20.
The men's 200 medley relay S team of Kea, Goldfaden, Grant Stoddard and Makena Ginoza won with a time of 1:32.68, while the Rainbow Warrior 200 free relay A team of Logan Euker, Jordan Meacham, Stoddard and Kea secured a victory with a mark of 1:22.52. The Rainbow Wahine also swept the relay events with the 200 medley relay A team of Alexa Ozment, Eva Kovaluk, Mia Eminova Blazevska and Nelson posting a winning time of 1:44.57 and the 200 free relay A team of Ozment, Tyminska, Davison and Detterich securing gold with a mark of 1:36.19.
UH dive teams return to action at the Cal Invitational (Jan. 16-18) at the Legends Aquatics Center in Berkley, Calif., and the Rainbow Warriors and Wahine swim teams will compete next in the Big West Championships (Feb. 12-15) at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium in Houston, Texas.
