CARY, N.C.—University of Hawai'i women's tennis player, 65th-ranked
Nikola Homolkova fell in straight sets in her opening match in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Qualifying Round at the Cary Tennis Park on Monday.
Homolkova, a senior from Pelhrimov, Czech Republic, fell to Notre Dame's 112
th-ranked Bojana Pozder in their opening round. In the first set, Homolkova kept things close, falling by just one break, but in the second frame, Pozder pulled away for the straight-set win, 6-4, 6-0.
Homolkova will next play No. 3 Georgia's 94
th-ranked Aysegul Mert in the Qualifying Consolation Round on Tuesday (time is to be determined).
On Sunday, UH's
Ana Vilcek competed in the Pre-Qualifying Consolation Round, but retired due to injury after losing the first set to Kaila Barksdale of Utah. As a result, the duo of Vilcek and Homolkova were unable to play their Pre-Qualifying Consolation doubles match.
