Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rainbow Wahine Top HPU, Win Third Straight

WAIPAHU, O'ahu – The Hawai'i women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three matches with a dominant 4-1 victory over Hawai'i Pacific in nonconference action Sunday at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The Rainbow Wahine out-shot the Sharks, 34-7, and matched a season-high in goals scored to win three straight matches for the first time since Oct. 3-18, 2019. It's also the first time that UH has scored multiple goals in three consecutive matches since that same span in 2019.

Cate Sheahan scored the first Hawai'i goal of the match and provided an assist on the third to finish with three points. Fabiola Zamora and Laule'a Ah Mook Sang each scored their first goals of the year while Tatum Porter put away her second.

The two teams went scoreless in the first half despite UH out-shooting the Sharks, 20-3. UH peppered HPU goalkeeper Lolo Retsky with shots all half with the Sharks' keeper recording nine saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Hawai'i (5-6) finally broke through on its 23rd shot attempt of the match when Sheahan found the back of the net in the 55th minute to make it 1-0. The junior made a move from just inside the box to the left of the net and nearly fell to the ground before sending it into the net.

After Nicole Ando drew a foul in the box in the 73rd minute, Zamora stepped up and buried the penalty kick to put UH up 2-0. Porter made it 3-0 less than two minutes later when she scored from close range off of a beautiful cross by Sheahan, and Ah Mook Sang answered HPU's lone goal with her first career score on a header off an Eve Bleam free kick in the 78th minute.

Sheahan led the way with 11 shot attempts, five of which were on goal, while finishing the two-match week with four total points after dishing out an assist on Thursday. Porter ended the day with five shot attempts while Zamora and Mia Foster attempted three each as UH's 34 shots were the most in a single match since firing off a program-record 54 attempts vs. HPU on Sept. 30, 2007.

The Rainbow Wahine close out their homestand with a Big West matchup against Cal State Bakersfield Thursday at 7 p.m. at Waipi'o.
