GAME STORYLINES
- Hawai'i and Northern Iowa have met once previously during the 2014 season in Honolulu. UH won that contest 27-24, Sept. 13 at Aloha Stadium. UH never trailed in that game and led 17-10 at halftime.
- UNI competes in the Football Championship Subdivision's Missouri Valley Football Conference. UH is 1-1 all-time against current MVFC members (1-0 vs. UNI, 0-1 vs. South Dakota State).
- UNI is Hawai'i's second FCS opponent this season, marking the first time since 2007 that UH will play two FCS opponents in the same season.
- UH has won its last 21 games against FCS teams dating back to 2001 with an average win margin of 25.7 points per game.
- Under head coach Timmy Chang, UH is 3-0 against FCS opponents, including a 35-14 season-opening victory over Delaware State.
- Not including the shortened 2020 COVID season, UH has played an FCS opponent in 10 consecutive seasons and 16 of the last 17. Hawai'i is scheduled to play an FCS team in the next several seasons—Portland State (2025), Northwestern State (2027), and Fordham (2028).
- UH and UNI are linked to a famed administrator, Stan Sheriff, who is a member of both school's Hall of Fame. Sheriff was UNI's head football coach for 23 years and athletics director for 13 years before becoming UH's athletics director for 10 years until his untimely death in 1993. UH's 10,300-seat on-campus arena is named after Sheriff.
- UH (1-2) dropped its first road contest of the season at Sam Houston, 31-13, last Saturday in Huntsville, Texas. Hawai'i fell behind 17-3 at the half and managed only 308 yards of total offense for the game.
- Hawai'i is 0-3 under head coach Timmy Chang in games immediately prior to a bye week. UH will have its second bye week of the season next week.
- UNI (2-1), ranked No. 19 in this week's FCS Coaches Poll, is coming off 34-3 loss at Nebraska, in a game in which the Panthers controlled the time of possession, 38:07 to 21:53.
- UNI head coach Mark Farley is in his 24th season at the helm and is the third-winningest active coach in FCS with 182 victories. Last week, UH opponent Sam Houston's head coach K.C. Keeler is the third-winningest active coach in FBS with 264 wins in 31 seasons.
