Men’s Basketball Adds Neal To Coaching Staff

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i men's basketball head coach Eran Ganot has announced the addition of Cullen Neal to the Rainbow Warrior staff as an assistant coach.

Neal spent the last two seasons at Rice University in Houston serving as the Director of Video Operations before also taking on the role of Director of Player Development in 2023-24. In his first season at Rice, the Owls advanced to the CBI postseason tournament. Prior to Rice, Neal was a graduate assistant on Steve Alford's staff in Nevada.

"We're excited to welcome Cullen and his great family into our 'ohana," Ganot said.  "Cullen is a terrific young coach with a bright future who has played for and worked under some great basketball minds. He has a passion and love for the game and has quickly earned a solid reputation for his work on the floor and in recruiting circles. The qualities that made him a terrific student-athlete and professional player are clearly evident in his coaching and we look forward to his impact on our program."

Neal is a former standout guard who scored more than 1,000 points during his collegiate career. He began at New Mexico, where he was a two-time team captain, before moving on to Ole Miss and concluding his career at Saint Mary's. He went to the postseason with each school and was part of top 25 teams at New Mexico and Saint Mary's.

Neal also excelled off the court as an academic all-district honoree and an NABC Good Works Team honoree for his impact in the community. Following his collegiate career, Neal played professionally in Poland in Germany for two years, while also spending his summers back home in the states as a player development coach.

A native of Albuquerque, Neal earned his undergraduate degree in communications and marketing at New Mexico. He also holds a master's degree from Nevada. He and his wife Lauren have a son, Holt and daughter, Cash.
