Four 'Bows Named to Olympic Water Polo Rosters

The past, present and future of the University of Hawai'i women's water polo program will be represented at the Paris Olympics.

Two former Rainbow Wahine standouts, a current member of the program, and an incoming student-athlete will take to the pool at the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Paris for the women's water polo competition in late July and early August.

Maartje Keuning (2017-18) was named to the Netherlands roster for the second straight Summer Games and Canada's Elyse Lemay-Lavoie (2018-19, '22) will also compete in her second Olympics.

Camille Radosavljevic, a UH junior, will be part of the host country's contingent as a member of France's roster, as will newcomer Ema Vernoux.

Keuning helped the Netherlands claim gold at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in 2023 and European Water Polo Championships in January, and all four played in the world championships in Doha in February.

Keuning and Lemay-Lavoie were teammates on UH's 2018 team that went 21-5. Lemay-Lavoie, a center, finished third on the team with 41 goals that season, and Keuning, a utility, added 40 goals and 24 assists. Lemay-Lavoie went on to earn Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches second-team All-America in 2019 and '22.

Keuning helped the Netherlands place sixth in the 2020 Tokyo Games and Canada placed seventh with Lemay-Lavoie and Monika Eggens (2009-11, '13) on the roster. They are the first UH products to play in two Olympic Games since Marie-Luc Arpin played for Canada in the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Games.

Radosavljevic played for UH in the 2022 and '23 seasons and remained in France for the 2024 season to prepare for the Olympics. She is slated to rejoin the 'Bows for the 2025 season and Vernoux is part of UH's incoming class.

The water polo competition is scheduled to open on July 27. The teams will compete in group play leading up to the medal rounds at Paris La Defense Arena. The quarterfinals are set for Aug. 6, the semifinals on Aug. 8, and the gold and bronze medal matches on Aug. 10.

Canada and the Netherlands are in Group A and will meet in a preliminary round match on Aug. 4. France is in Group B with Spain, Greece, Italy and the United States.
