SPOKANE, Wash. – The Hawai'i women's track and field team capped off a historic weekend at the MPSF Championships with a team runner-up finish behind more record performances Monday.
"I'm so incredibly proud of this team and staff," said director of track and field
Tim Boyce. "This was a record-setting weekend in multiple respects and our best ever MPSF finish. We had so many great accomplishments but we're most proud of how these women have persevered through all of the challenges thrown their way over the last few years."
The Rainbow Wahine posted their highest ever team finish at the MPSF Indoor Championships, marking the third straight year that UH has placed in the top four in the event. The 'Bows took home conference titles in five different events – the most gold medals ever accumulated by a Hawai'i team at an indoor conference championship meet.
"This is the best all-around team we have ever brought to these championships, and it showed in our confidence and energy throughout the last two days," said track and field head coach
Madeleine Carleton. "Despite the challenges we've faced, we had a number of dominant wins and record-breaking performances en route to our highest finish ever at this meet."
Tara Wyllie took home the Rainbow Wahine's fourth individual conference title of the meet by winning the triple jump. The sophomore posted yet another PR and improved upon her No. 2 mark in program history with a jump of 12.46m on her fifth attempt to take the crown by a wide margin.
Sammie Gordon added a third-place finish in the event with a personal best 11.85m jump to move into eighth all-time at UH.
Hawai'i capped off the meet with an exclamation point in the 4x400m relay, blowing away the field and smashing the school record with a 3:40.51 to vault into second place for the meet.
Amy Warrington led off with a 56.44 before passing to
Alyssa Mae Antolin who ran a 54.21 second leg. Gordon then ran a 54.44 third leg to open up a big lead for
Isabella Kneeshaw, who brought it home with a 55.41 anchor leg.
Kneeshaw set another school record earlier in Monday's action, running a 55.67 to finish sixth in the 400m and top the previous mark by .01 seconds. Warrington came in right behind Kneeshaw in seventh with a 56.72 to move into fourth on the UH indoor top 10 list.
Antolin and Kneeshaw each added more points in the 60m dash, as Antolin came in fifth with a time of 7.56 while Kneeshaw PR'd again with a 7.58 to place sixth and improve her No. 2 time at UH.
A pair of UH throwers scored in the shot put, as
Rose Forshaw placed fifth with a mark of 13.74m while
Hallee Mohr came in seventh with a toss of 13.33m.
Wyllie added another point to the UH total with an eighth-place finish in the 60m hurdles while
Carlin McFadden put up a point in the 800m with a time of 2:14.74.
Emilie Kirk Langschwager scored two points for the Rainbow Wahine in the 3000m, running a personal best and No. 5 time at UH with a 9:52.16 to finish seventh.
