Rainbow Wahine Place Sixth At South Florida Team Race

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine sailing team made its longest trek of the season, competing in the South Florida Team Feb. 23-24 in Bayboro Harbor. In their first trip to the Sunshine State in seven years, the Rainbow Wahine finished sixth against a field comprised primarily of East Coast schools.

College of Charleston dominated the field with a 16-2 record, followed by MIT with a 13-5 record. UH closed the weekend with a 4-14 mark as the teams competed in a triple round-robin. The Rainbow Wahine notched three head-to-head wins against Northwestern and one against Old Dominion.

A contingent of eight sailors -- Vivian Bonsager, Morgan Carew, Summer Demmon, Malia Johnson, Anna Kalabukhova, Peyton Lieser, Martha Schuessler, Mercy Tangredi - competed for the Rainbow Wahine in shifty winds that ranged as high as 15 knots on Saturday.

The Rainbow Wahine will next be in action, March 9-10, when they compete in the St. Francis Intersectional in San Francisco.
